The standard GM steel wheel was used on models with the base hubcap or wheel disks.

The use of the 14" X 5" inch wheel has not been verified to have been available on the Firebird. The 14" x 5" wheel would have only been used for the Space Saver Spare. The 14" X 6" variant was also used for Space Saver spares.

Standard Hub Cap

This would be the last year for this Hubcap. With the base hub cap was ordered the wheel was typically delivered in body color¹.

Part No: 5738083 Used in 1970 and 1971. This was the same basic design as 1967 to 1969 but was stamped PONTIAC instead of Pontiac Motor Division.

Option Code 471, UPC P06: Trim Ring

The chrome trim ring was standard on Esprit and available on Firebird and Formula at extra cost with the standard hub cap only. Trim rings were standard when Rally II wheels were ordered except on Trans Am* and Formula when 15 inch tires were ordered (TNL/PM7).

Not available with Optional Wheel Discs. Standard with N98 Rally II rims (14 inch).

Option Code 472, UPC P02: Custom Wheel Disks

Custom Wheel Covers are available on all Firebird models except Trans Am. 14-inch wheel size, featuring brushed stainless steel center hub surrounded by simulated cooling fins.

Wire Wheel Covers are available on all Firebird models except Trans Am. They feature chrome-plated wire spokes plus a bright-red medallion Hub insert.

Option Code 474, UPC N98: Rally II Wheels with Trim Rings

14-inch diameter. Stamped steel gives the appearance of magnesium. Chrome-plated wheel nuts (Conventional spare wheel provided with Space-Saver Spare Tire.

The dechromed Rally II wheels were still standard on Trans Am but for 1971 trim rings were added as standard equipment with the 15 inch wheel.
The Honeycomb Wheel was listed as standard on Trans Am in early factory literature but was actually made an option after early supply problems forced the reinstatement of the 15" Rally II as standard equipment. The Trans Am version of the Honeycomb wheel was a 15" diameter versus the 14" diameter available on other models.

Originally standard on Trans Am it became an option after production problems. The 15 inch wheel was option on Trans Am, Formula with the Y99 Handling package, or Formula with 15 inch raised white letter tires (PM7).

Trim Ring -

Red PMD center caps were the only center cap for Rally II wheels in 1971. These center caps were used from 1970 to 1972.

The center cap for the Honeycomb wheel was unique to the 1971 in that it featured a plain face. Later ornaments with have a Pontiac arrowhead logo.

The conventional spare tire came with the standard steel wheel. If Rally II wheels were specified, a fifth Rally II wheel was supplied with the spare, unless the Space Saver Spare (UPC N65) was ordered.

Adds approximately three cubic feet of usable luggage capacity. Easily inflated with handy pressure can. 1971 Version shown.
