The Canopy top was unchanged from 1976. This option, never a hot seeler, was seeing sales decline from 8,158 in 1976 to 6,330. Vinyl top sales would continue to decline until the option was terminated after 1979.

Based on the 1976 concept Blue Bird the Skybird was the first attemt as a special edition other than Trans Am. Adorned in Skybird only Lombard Blue paint with Dark Blue lower accent skybird featured many unique features. The sail panel, trunklid or spoiler, if equipped was adorned by a blue bird in a pin-stripe style design. Thin blue striping separated the upper and lower two tone colrs and also repeated on the hood. The front grilles were acccented with blue highlights and blue snowflake wheels were distinct features of the Skybird.

The Formula W50 Appearance Package continued for 1977 and added two additional colors to the pallette for a total of six. Starlight Black was added to the list of colors and the W50 Option gave it a gold lower two tone with gold striping. A new FORMULA id decal was introduced, possibly at mid year because the 1976 style is still listed as valid for 1977. The new FORMULA logo featured a dark center accent. The W50 Formula Appearance Package carried over the striping around the lower body, blacked out rear taillamp surround and partial bumper, striping on the lower edge of the spoiler, and the smaller 7.22" Spoiler bird with FORMULA decals on the fenders and the standard rear spoiler. The smaller bird was designed to accomodate the wide stripe on the spoiler. Missing on all models for 1978 was the model identication decal on the top of the fascia on the driver's side.
